Ta-Dah EtsyMini Monday

It's EtsyMini Monday again this week's feature shop is quite appropriate for the night of new year's resolutions, New Year's Eve. Many of us have resolved to be more eco-minded in the year to come and a great place to look for inspiration is Megan's sweet little shop, Ta-Dah Handmade. The beautiful one-of-a-kind garden decorations and bud vases are all made from reclaimed glass, wire and small items so you can feel good about the environment as you beautify your life.My personal favorites are obviously the bud vases. These cuties are made from reclaimed test tubes, perfect for any of the chemists on your gift list (like me!) or for anyone who wants to add a bit of whimsy to their decor.
Don't forget to check out the blog at www.tadahpdx.com for updates on the shop, brick & mortar shops and local events where you can find Megan's work, and fun family news on the whole Ta-Dah clan.

Artsy Clay Mini Monday

From her Etsy shop profile I discovered that the inspiration for Artsy Clay was the work of a child. In some of her pieces you can see that whimsical feeling that would speak to the child in all of us. In other pieces you find sophistication that is very pleasing to look at and sure to get you comments and compliments when worn.
To learn more about this artist you can take a look at her shop or her blog.

Happy House Quilts Mini, um..Wednesday!

Before writing this (belated) mini Monday, er, Wednesday, for happy house quilts I was determined to make it spectacular to make up for the fact that it is late. But when I came to look at the shop I found that making a review of the work for sale there was not all that difficult. It radiates spectacularity (yes, it is a word. I just made it up, so there) in the cheerful colours and fun shapes of die cut and hand-cut fabric and quilting goodness.

The shop's by-line reads "Practical & Fashionable accessories for daily life," so you start to see that happy house quilts is about fun and pretty quilted accessories, not actual blankets, as the un-initiated of us might believe. I am now initiated. I just initiated myself. The craft of quilting is applied far beyond the limits those of us not in the craft might have fabricated for it and it is a great place to go for unique hairpins, broaches and the famous hair quilts. Stitched by hand and 100% Wool, these creative creations will add a bit of hand-crafted style to your mop, turning the cowlicks and the stressed out curls you call your do into a little work of art.

What caught my eye the most is the cute holiday ornament craft kits, shown above, but there is plenty to please in this shop, and plenty to read on the blog, at http://happyhousequilts.blogspot.com. Stop by the blog for a special HHQ tutorial on how to make your own cheerful holiday wool & cedar pouches!!

Happy Birthday!

Simply wired is having a birthday.
Stop by her shop or her blog to say hello and happy birthday.

December 3 Blog Carnival

The December 3rd edition of the Etsy Bloggers Blog Carnival can be found here. The posts are all about buying handmade! Thanks so much to StormyDesigns for hosting!

Mini Monday - Glamorosi

One of the things I like best about writing for the Mini Monday is getting the chance to discover so much new talent. Glamorosi was a new seller to me before the etsybloggers team, but it seems that soon there won't be many who have not become familiar with her name. Her beautiful high-fashion jewelery has been getting a lot of attention lately and has been featured in shopping blogs, Art networking sites such as TalentDatabase and fashion press.
You can see what all the hype is about when you visit her store. Combining organic shapes with bright an unexpected colours, she creates wearable art guaranteed to get you some attention if you happen to be lucky enough to score a piece. My personal favorite are her shoulder dusters, but I'd be glad to have the chance to wear any of her beautiful work if a certain husband was perhaps looking for a Christmas gift for his beautiful and quite deserving wife. A hem.
Keep your eye out for this one. I have a strong feeling we'll be hearing even more about Glamorosi in the future as an up and coming rock-star designer.

The latest edition of the EtsyBloggers blog carnival can be found here.
Once again many thanks to Stormy Designs for hosting. If you would like to try hosting a carnival yourself or contribute to one the information and help can be found on the message boards. Look for the links on the right.
It's easy. It can act as a muse for writer's block. It will help build links to your blog.

Ten Minute Marketing Tips

Hey all, Check this out from the Etsy forums as posted by sarawearskirts--

It's an article detailing Ten Minute Marketing Tips for Teams Members and how to promote your shop during the holidays. There's a link on why blogs are important and how to become a blogger, too! Not that we don't already know ;)

Thanks Sara and Amy!

Groovyvinyl on Mini Monday

From her shop profile-
My poor old dusty record collection was languishing unplayed on the shelf. What was I going to do with them? I had plenty of beads and findings...one Jim Croce album later, voila! Groovy Vinyl was born. Dollar stores are among my many inspirations. I'm married to a really cool guy named Bob and we live in Massachusetts with our two crazy cats, Tricky and Little Byte.

Groovyvinyl was and is a founding and major part of our bloggers team. She certainly deserves today's recognition. Groovyvinyl is also known on etsy as impybat. Both shops feature items many items made from recycled materials. If you are shopping for something beautiful and unusual for yourself of someone else this holiday season take a look at her shops.

Etsy Mini Monday - Joeyandaleethea

Joey & Aleethea is a name we all know quite well. Quite aside from the beautiful shop and a blog calculated to cheer your soul, there is all the work that keeps this street team afloat, done quietly behind the scenes. I think a round of applause for all her hard work in this respect is due before we go any further.

And in this super-mom's Etsy shop, filed neatly under cute categories such as "Feed the Baby," "Burp the Baby," Change the Baby", Rock the Baby", "Be Cool with the Baby," and even "The Furry Baby," are smile-inducing items for your little ones that will ensure that your child can show his style.

My personal favorite is the Vasilis the Monster shirt, but with over 200 designs in her baby boutique, there is plenty to please. From the shop profile, you get an idea of what Joey & Aleethea is trying to achieve and what is important to her as a designer:
♥ [handmade super coolness]:

Whether your baby is a monster, a rocker, a jock, a military brat, a corporate coo-er, a diva, a retro radical, a cowboy or an indian, an artiste, a prince or princess, there's no doubt your baby is super cutesie! We've got super cutesie coolness...handmade by a mom.
And the blog has a good deal of super-cutesie too. From a section for "have a giggle" to some cute stories about her little ones, quotes and inspiration for any occasion, and a soundtrack that currently has me bobbing my head to some Van Morrison, its a good way to brighten a day.

Thank you, Joey & Aleethea for all your hard work on the EtsyBloggers team, and for keeping the next generation in style.

Athena's Armoury Mini Monday

When I think of the words chain maille thoughts come to mind of knights on horses wearing linked metal clothing into battle for protection. At Athena's Armoury you find out that it can be so much more. The technique of joining the rings is called weaving and every ring is formed and then joined by hand. Working in a variety of metals to create earrings, bracelets and headpieces the work is simply stunning. Clicking on the items above or the shop name will take you to Janine's shop where you can see and learn much more.

Birthday Mini

Birthday wishes going out to team member Naptimecrafts who joined Etsy on September 29, 2007.

A Pretty Rock

It was truly a delight for me to prepare this week's Etsy Mini Monday feature because I am in love with so many of Yazmin's wonderful mini pieces of wearable art. It was a significantly less enjoyable time for my poor husband, who has been fending off Christmas gift hints for the past hour. I just doubled the size of my wishlist.

Flora Mother of Pearl Button Ring

My favorites are hard to single out, but a clear first place was her Flora Mother of Pearl Button ring, with deep colours and a swirling elegance. But both her Leafy Golden Blossoms Necklace and her Flora Bobbypins come in at a close second.

Leafy Golden Blossoms Necklace

In addition to beautiful pictures of her art, Yazmin's blog is quite impressive as well, boasting a bright but clean design and an integrated online shop. A Pretty Rock is an Etsy legend, a member since 2005, and her longevity speaks to the quality of her work and her skilled eye for design. A very talented artist, indeed.

Blog Carnival Reminder

Just a reminder: this week's blog carnival is coming up soon, so be sure to get your posts in!

This week's carnival will be hosted by SixthandElm.etsy.com and the theme is "The Story of your Craft". How did you "get into" what you do? Did you go to school for it? Learn from your Grandmother? Get inspired by something you saw or were part of? Teach yourself? What is the first thing you made, or the first moment you gained the confidence to do the confidence to do this for real? It's an opportunity to talk about the ONE inspiration or source that started the creative ball rolling for you.

Once you've posted on this topic, submit the link to your post for inclusion in the carnival. This week's carnival will be hosted this Monday, November 5th at sixthandelm.

Sixth & Elm

This week's Mini Monday featured seller is Sixth & Elm who joined Etsy in January of this year.

From the Etsy profile of Sixth & Elm-
"Oh dear. I find it very difficult to write a bio for myself; I'm too all over the place. I started crafting as a way to keep me occupied (I get bored easily with anything but making something) and now I have found it to be one of the most rewarding things in my life."

Sixth & Elm has a wonderful selection of gifts in her shop. She has eight sections for handcrafted work ranging from hard drive clocks to wood burned treasure boxes to beautifully beaded trees. One of my favorite things in her shop is a business card couch. To learn more about the artist behind Sixth & Elm take the time to read her blog. It is always time well spent in my opinion.

As you can see A Cozy Life offers beautiful handmade fabric items for your head and neck. With beautiful lace edging and vibrant patterns it's a wonder there is anything still left in stock! Personally, I'll be eyeing those scarves when I move north next year! And to think, she makes such wonderful warm things in Arizona! Keep an eye on her store, I'm sure there'll be more beautiful knitting, crocheting, and hemstitching (as her banner tells us!) in store for our buying pleasure...

Weekly Blog Carnival

The latest edition of the weekly Etsy Bloggers blog carnival is coming up this Monday, October 22nd. Sara of SarasTextureCrafts.etsy.com will be hosting the carnival at her blog, Crafts of Texture. The theme this week is ‘The craft book that has become your bible’.

Always wanted to participate in or host the Etsy Bloggers carnival but not sure how? Be sure to check out the FAQ, and if you still have any questions, fire away!

Submitting your post each week is simple. Just make a blog post on the current week's theme (you can find the full list here) and then go here before midnight on Sunday (Eastern Standard Time) to submit it. You'll just be asked to submit your name & email (which will not be made public & only shared with that week's host in case they have a question or problem). Most importantly, it will ask for your Permalink URL. Not sure what this is? It's the link to the individual post - not the link to your whole blog. Most blogs are set up so that the title of each post is clickable, and if you click the title you will be brought to a page that just shows that post and maybe some comments. The url to this page is what you need - the permalink url.

Interested in hosting? (October 29th is still available!)
Just contact me at mallory [AT] missmalaprop [DOT] com with the following info:
the date you’d like to host
your email address
your blog address
your chosen theme/topic for your week

Alicia Mae

Just in time for Halloween, our second Etsy Mini Monday Star is AliciaMae, home of fantastic costume masks and other make-believe mischief. She is also a maker after my own heart, creating wood burned boxes to house innumerable treasures. There's just something about an empty box that screams possibility, and hers scream with a charming Irish accent.

My favorite items from her extensive Halloween repository include her inspirational wooden bead necklaces and the (wonderfully authentic-like) magician wands, at a price any mother witch could love.

AliciaMae is donating 10% of all proceeds up to October 31 to the Snowflake Animal Rescue in Raleigh, NC, so now is a perfect time to buy. Although she is on vacation this week, any sales until her return will be shipped on October 19th, just in time for the scariest night of the year!

This blog's stats...

This graph is one week of data showing this blog'a stats from Monday Sept. 3rd - Monday Sept. 10th

See below post for our NEW WEEKLY EVENT entitled EtsyBloggers EtstMini Mondays!!

EtsyBloggers EtsyMini Mondays!

Hi everyone!

I'm launching a new weekly bit of fun stuff for us. :D

It's called "EtsyBloggers EtsyMini Mondays" and it will be a public blog post here on our team blog which will feature an Etsy Mini from 1 lucky member of our team.
Basically it will be a weekly promotion on our blog which spotlights one team member, every week.

Then we can each check here every Monday and comment to tell our team member how completely awesome their stuff is. Are ya with me?

The official EtsyBloggers EtsyMini Mondays will begin next Monday, 10/08/07.

So I'm looking for a volunteer from our EtsyBloggers team to take this on and maintain this on a weekly basis. The volunteer will be a weekly guest blogger for our team, and will post an Etsy mini to this here team blog every week - either over the weekend or on Monday mornings. Someone who is comfy using Etsy mini code and who knows how to a) edit the shop id of the EtsyMini and b) insert the Etsy mini into a blog. The guest blogger can either simply insert the EtsyMini code and that's it...or they can also add to the post by writing whatever they'd like, underneath the EtsyMini. That way the EtsyMini will always be the very first item within the post.

Then, once the EtsyMini is posted here on our blog, it will allow anyone from our team to start a thread on the Etsy forums, either under EtsyTeams or under the Promotions section and let us know that the EtsyBloggers EtsyMini Mondays is up! That way we can also support our team there on the Etsy forums too.

Please keep this in mind: The title of the forum post must always contain the word EtsyBloggers - that way it will be easy to search for the forum thread and help bump it up to keep it going all week long.

How will we pick who is to be featured weekly here on our team blog?
Good question. Just comment here on this post and be sure to include your Etsy user ID and you'll be featured in the order of your comment! So the first person to comment here will be our very first feature on Oct. 8th. The second person to comment here will be spotlighted here on Oct. 15th. And so on.

How do I find my Etsy user ID?
Your Etsy user ID is a #, you can see it if you go to your shop and look at the address bar (URL) atop the page. For example when I go to my shop joeyandaleethea.etsy.com I see this http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=80947 and so my user id is 80947.

Any questions? Suggestions? Lemme know!

Message Board Fun

Hi all!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Yahoo group, which has been causing some problems such as bounced emails for some of us on the team, will be shut down. This is so we can boldly move forward in a newer, much more organized direction of our EtsyBloggers message board, which you will find at http://etsybloggers.proboards83.com/ or by going to our cool new site (thanks to Sandra!!) at http://etsybloggers.com.

And then I'm noticing that Sandra has already blogged about this...oh well, consider this a reminder, then ;D

We're moving...

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted here - and I missed you!! :D

I wanted to pop in and let you know that we'll soon move our team over to Proboards, and away from the Yahoo Group. I'm hoping we can get everybody moved over this week.

The Yahoo Group is way overwhelming for lots of our members, and there
are technical issues with Yahoo too. Plus it's so hard to follow the
threads and to keep up with the topics.

I really look forward to the move, the new board is very organized, and there are many more features we'll all be able to use.

And it's all ready for us too! I've created sections and areas for us to post, and would love your input on them. I'll send you all a link to the new board later today so that you can all take a loook - I'm just adding some finishing touches to the color scheme, layout and Admin stuff.

But for now, I just wanted to let you know about the move.

And I wanted to get your feedback too. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the move!

Etsy News re: Street Teams

Here's a bit of what Etsy is up to...

"We’re planning on expanding the forums into something like Groups on Flickr. We have Street Teams on Etsy but they currently lack a proper setup on the site itself. A new Teams section on Etsy will remedy this, giving each Team their own forum, group Treasury, profile, and list of members."

How awesome does that sound? An easier way to keep up and check in with each other. Cool.

Read more here.

And for anyone who is waiting for blogring approval, thanks for your patience.
Life is nutty.

Blog Carnival and Hosting News

Hello!

I'm back with some updates on the Blog Carnival front. Mallory, AKA MissMalaprop and dismantled on Etsy, has offered to host the first carnival. Not only that, but she set us up on the carnival and has offered to be the contact person for the hosting! So three big cheers to Mallory!

The theme will be a tour of your craft space/studio/table wherever you create. The deadline for the posts will be Sunday, July 15th and the carnival will start on Monday, July 16th. So here's the lowdown:

After you make your post for the week, submit the link to your post here~
http://blogcarnival.com/bc/submit_1992.html

The person who hosts will also choose the theme (sorry Mallory, I sort of stole that from you). If you would like to host, Mallory is the contact person. Convo her on Etsy (http://dismantled.etsy.com) with the following info:

*the date you want to host
*your email address
*your blog address
*your chosen theme/topic for that week

She also set up a page on her blog for people to keep track of who is hosting and what the theme is. The page is here~http://www.missmalaprop.com/etsy-bloggers-carnival/

That's it for now!

Blog Post Round Up!

I know that many of you have joined our Yahoo bloggers street team group--we are now 39 people strong over there. We have been discussing a better, easier way to bring all of our group writing posts together conveniently. Having a blog host definitely worked out awesome (thanks again Sandra of Joey & Aleethea for taking the reins last week--great, GREAT job! That was a lot of work!)

A short while back, Lis Kidder had suggested using Blog Carnival to do just this. Scroll down a bit to read what the Blog Carnival is all about--I had written a short entry about it recently. Mallory of Dismantled brought up the carnivals again last week on the Yahoo group and she has offered to start us out so that we can try it out. Go to http://blogcarnival.com/bc/cprof_1992.html to see where everyone can submit their posts and see what the theme is. We're going to start next week.

The deadline would be Sunday, July 15 and the first Etsy Bloggers Carnival would be on Monday, July 16. As for themes, we could go with what SixthandElm had suggested a while back and everyone does a tour of their crafting studio/craft space. What does everyone think?

What's the word on Orange, Street?

First of all, thanks you guys for having me as a guest blogger! This street team has been so much fun already and I'm surrounded by not only some seriously cool artists but also super sweet Etsians too.

If you don't already know, GroovyVinyl has rounded us up and sent us out on our first mission; this week's challenge is to blog about something orange.

Here's a link to that thread if you missed it: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5140125 and also another here: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5144686

In one of the threads Lis Kidder said: "It would be sweet if there were a way to post teasers to each person's group blog post... the title and a few lines and a link to more info that could lead to their blog (in a new window). Hmmmmmm....."

Thank you Lis, and now for some freshly squeezed orange goodness!

See who's been blogging about orange and what everyone is blogging about:

Look, look!!

Look at our gorgeous new banner from Joey & Aleethea!! And that leads me to an impromptu Etsians post as inspired by Fearless Fibers. Allow me to gush a little bit here. Seriously, we have the nicest, coolest collection of people on Etsy that make it the great community that it is. They are people who want to get involved, love sharing ideas, helping each other to promote, and generally take time out of their busy schedules to give newbies advice on the forums and things like that. Most of us don't even know each other personally, ye we come together as a community on Etsy. You rock, Etsians!

Orange you glad you blog?

I know, I can hear the collective groaning of my bad pun! Today is the kickoff for the orange theme week! In case you haven't heard or forgot, this week we'll be doing a group writing project inspired by the color orange for Etsy. The challenge is to come up with a blog entry using the color orange as the theme, whether it is a project or craft you did or anything else--as long as it ties into Etsy somehow. The thread about it I had started a few days ago is here~

http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=5144686

I'd resurrect it but I don't want to be annoying ;) I hope everyone has fun with this!

Spreading the word of Etsy!

Fearless Fibers started an awesome thread on the forums regarding all of the sellers who blog banding together and spreading the word of Etsy via our blogs. Wouldn't it be great if we could assist her in this effort to tell the world what Etsy is all about--not just exclusively promoting our own shops, but promoting the philosophy of buying handmade and the supporting indie artists and crafters! Definitely do check out and post to that thread to keep it going if you can, and blog about the Etsy movement in your own blog!

Permissions Stuff

Hey all, I didn't even realize that I could add you guys to the permissions list so you could all post!!
Jeez, get on the ball Terri! So if you would like to send me your email addresses, I can add you in if you'd like. That way you can post your group writing project blog entries and such and everybody can participate more with this blog, yay!

Woo Hoo!

Our Street Team page is up, thanks to Sara! You can view it here. It still needs a banner, which is on my to-do list. I do have a few more names to submit to here, so if you didn't see your name on the team page, it will be there soon.

Obligatory Friday Post

I submitted the member list to Sara (sarawearsskirts), who is the admin of the Street Teams over on Etsy. She should be updating the teams pages soon! I did have a few more people asking for their names to be included, so I will forward those to her also. What a turnout it was, I am glad so many of you were interested in making this happen. Thanks also to the posters who kept our threads alive last week!

Organicstills has offered to make a button for our team! Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to do this for us.

Well, that's the update for now!

Group Writing Project #1!

Well let's get the ball rolling and start a group writing project! I really liked the idea of doing color as a theme (thank you Cozy), and Helen of Pepperina Press has suggested that we start with orange, for Etsy! The challenge is to blog about something using the color orange as a central theme, be it a project that you did, a story or anecdote, or whatever else you come up with, and how it is Etsy-related.

You can put the links to your entries here or on the thread for the orange theme on the Etsy forums.

The beginning date for this theme will be next week on Monday, July 2, and it will end on Sunday, July 8.

I'll bet that there will be some really interesting entries to read and it will get get people visiting and commenting on each other's blogs!

Blog Carnival!

Liskidder introduced me to an awesome website that will be perfect for the team called Blog Carnival! It's a blog communities publishing magazine where people submit blog articles on various topics. Then the links get published as an online magazine, or carnival. You really need to visit the site to see what it's all about. This is something we should get involved in. I started an account and encourage others to do so as well!

Plus, you don't have to run away from home to join ;)

Thanks Lis!

Blogging Theme Stuff

We've got some fun group blogging events lined up for our team. Cozy had a great suggestion for the group, which is to showcase a craft, art form, color, or something else along those lines and how it ties into Etsy. Each person posts a blog entry that fits our them, which would run for the week, or any other given time frame that is decided on. I think this is a marvelous idea. We can hammer out the details this week and start the chosen theme for next week, which would be Monday, July 2nd. I vote that we start with color first, and I'd be up for yellow...but I highly value your input and comments, so please pitch your ideas here!

Some of the other theme ideas I came up with are (and believe me, they're not new ideas, I was inspired by the forums!) Crafts That Came Out Terrible, Great Mistakes (projects that inadvertently came out terrific) How You Got Started Crafting/Designing, Bad Craft Fair Experiences, Best Craft/Art Book You've Read, Greatest Art/Craft Tool You Can't Live Without...this is just a start. There's so much we can do with this. I want to hear from you!

Sunday Musings

Well, the threads on the forums are still going strong and their has been a lot of interest generated by our team! Many people signing up and this is great! Right now I am thinking of what comes next, after our team page has been set up. Maybe our team can take a cue from other successful and active street teams and run some contests or something else for promotion? Any thoughts or suggestions?

So far, so good!

There is a thread going on the forums regarding getting your name on the member list for the official team page. So far between that one and the couple other team threads that are going, there has been a ton of interest in this! Yay!

A few people have asked me why we are starting a street team about the Etsy bloggers. This is a very good question. Why were we starting this group and what are we hoping to accomplish? My answer was to network, share in your creative process, and ultimately help to promote each other, and also just for the fun of it.

Another question that popped up was are we related to the Etsy Sellers Who Blog Ring. No, the Street Team is not a part of the blog ring, although my other blog is linked to it and so are a lot of people who added themselves to our team list. I think it would be a good idea to join the ring--the Etsy Bloggers Street Team Blog on the Etsy Sellers Who Blog Ring. Which makes me think of the coffee table book about coffee tables on Seinfeld.

We're gonna be official!

Today I emailed admin about making our team official and heard back from Sara. She informed me that she'll be updating the teams page next week, so I'll be compiling a member list to send to her. I have a thread going for this on the forums or you can just let me know right here if you would like to join.

Hello Bloggers!

Hey and welcome to all my fellow Etsy bloggers! This is the Official Blog of the Etsy Bloggers Street Team. This team was inspired by Moda Designs, AKA Cheap Boutique, from a great thread she started about people who blog about Etsy sellers. You can find that thread here.
The focus of the team originally was about people who blog about other Etsians, but really I would love any Etsy seller who loves to blog to join the team.

So if you love Etsy and love to blog, then this is the team for you!
